Recap:
The Buffalo Sabres came on strong early, and were able to tag the NHL's top goaltender Ed Belfour for 5 goals early en route to a 7-3 drubbing of the Chicago Blackhawks. Belfour allowed 5 goals on only 6 shots, and was pulled from the game less than 17 minutes into the 1st period in favor of backup Jimmy Waite, who was able to weather the storm. Chicago became completely unraveled and provided Buffalo with 9 powerplay opportunities, which Buffalo was able to capitalize on 4 of them. Buffalo played a perfect disciplined game, not providing any man-advantage opportunities. The PIM totals were 39 for Chicago and 9 for the Sabres. Randy Wood had a hat trick (3) including the game winning goal in the victory, while Pat LaFontaine added 3 assists. Juri Khmylev and Dale Hawerchuk had 2 assists apiece.

Recap:
Patrick Roy cruised to a 22 save shutout, as the Habs took control of 1st place in the Adams Division, while San Jose's losing streak to start the season grew to 6 games. Mathieu Schneider had 2 goals (3) including the game winning goal to provide all the offense Montreal would need, while cruising to a 4-0 win in front of a sold out Montreal Forum. Montreal jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first period by virtue of Schneider's 2 goals sandwiching Gilbert Dionne's first goal of the campaign. Brian Bellows scored his (4)th of the season just over halfway through the 2nd period, to push Montreal to the eventual final score of 4-0, which appears insurmountible by the offensively-challenged Sharks. Bellows finished with a goal and an assist, and Kirk Muller added 2 helpers for the victorious Habs.
