Recap:
Goaltenders Ed Belfour and Kirk McLean put on a show at the Chicago Stadium in a marquee Campbell Conference matchup. The first period was scoreless, but Brian Noonan scored :17 seconds into the second period to put Chicago up 1-0 with Geoff Courtnall in the penalty box. Chicago's defense held Vancouver in check for almost 40 minutes, only allowing 8 shots. Discipline became an issue. With Jocelyn Lemieux already in the penalty box, Steve Smith took 7 minutes in penalty time without bringing a Canuck with him. Vancouver would come on strong with a flurry of shots from all directions on Ed Belfour. The goaltender held strong until 3:55 into the 3rd when Petr Nedved (4) finally converted on Smith's gift. In an exciting 3rd period, there was tight checking, rough play, and good goaltending. It would remain 1-1. Rob Brown took a penalty at the end of regulation to give Vancouver a powerplay in overtime, but it was not enough to beat Belfour.
Chicago 4-1-1 (9) t-1st Norris, Vancouver 2-2-1 (5) 4th Smythe

First Star of the Night:
Derek King had a goal and 3 assists to lead the New York Islanders to a 6-6 tie at Madison Square Garden against the Rangers
