Recap:

There was one lone game Monday night between the Blues and Canadiens at the Montreal Forum. The Habs got out to a quick pace, outshooting the Blues 16-6 in the first period, and enjoying a 2-0 lead from goals by Stephan LeBeau at the 3:18 mark and John LeClair (3) later in the period. Brett Hull (7) opened the 2nd period scoring early, on the powerplay to make it a one goal game, but Vincent Damphousse (5) and Kirk Muller (3) would answer later in the second for a commanding 4-1 Montreal lead. That lead would get tenuous, as Brendan Shanahan scored (3) on the powerplay at the 7:17 mark of the 3rd period, and Nelson Emerson scored 1 minute later to bring the Blues again within one. Patrick Roy held on for the rest of the game and the Habs were victorious, claiming a share of 1st place in the Adams Division. Montreal outshot St. Louis 40-20.
Montreal 4-2-1 (9) t-1st Adams, St. Louis 2-5-0 (4) t-5th Norris
