Recap:
The Ottawa Senators franchise made their first visit to Boston Garden, but were not greeted kindly by the Bruins.  Joe Juneau scored only 24 seconds into the game and the Bruins set the tone early with tight checking.  Dave Reid put Boston up 2-0 at the 8 minute mark.  Before the end of the 1st period, Lonnie Loach brought Ottawa within one with his first goal in his first game of the season.  Steve Leach would answer for Boston with the next and last 2 goals of the game, one in each the 2nd and 3rd periods to seal a 4-1 Boston victory.  Boston put up a gaudy shot total for the 3rd straight game, outshooting Ottawa 48-20.  Adam Oates had 3 assists, and Juneau had a goal and 2 assists in the Bruins victory.

Recap:
In a battle of two 0-3-0 teams, the New Jersey Devils came out of the gate fast, scoring 4 goals on their 1st 10 shots, chasing Don Beaupre from net in favor of Jim Hrivnak, who did not far much better.  New Jersey would get 9 goals total, led by Bruce Driver who had 2 goals and 3 assists to tie a New Jersey Devils record (see below).  Scott Stevens had 4 assists, Bobby Holik had 2 goals and an assist, Stephane Richer had a goal and 2 assists, and Bill Gueren potted his first NHL goal.  Kevin Miller broke the shutout for Washington 6:45 into the 3rd period with a shorthanded goal.  Washington now has failed to get a point in its first 4 games and has fallen to the basement of the Patrick Division.  9 Goals in one game ties a New Jersey franchise record and is the 7th time they have achieved 9 goals.  (Rockies - 4.1.79 vs. STL, 2.12.82 vs. QUE, Devils - 4.6.86 vs. NYI, 3.10.90 vs. QUE, 12.5.90 vs. VAN, 10.26.91 vs. SJ, 10.12.92 vs. WAS)

Recap:
The winless Hartford Whalers were looking to spoil the undefeated New York Rangers 1992-1993 opener at Madison Square Garden.  Hartford goalie Sean Burke took an early slashing penalty, but Zarley Zalapski scored a shorthanded goal on the ensuing powerplay.  Sean Burke held strong in the face of the Rangers attack, while Hartford played pretty well in front of him.  Pat Verbeek scored a goal in each of the 2nd and 3rd period, followed by Murray Craven's 3rd of the season to put Hartford up a commanding 4-0 lead almost 5 minutes into the 3rd.  The Rangers were not going to go quietly though.  Adam Graves, Brian Leetch, and Darren Turcotte (4) scored to chip the Whaler lead to 1 with just under 3 minutes remaining.  Doug Houda and Jay Wells got into a fight with 2 minutes left, and Houda was assessed a minor for slashing, giving the Rangers a goden opportunity to tie the game.  Andrew Cassels ended up with a breakaway goal, sealing Hartford's victory with his 2nd of the season and Hartford's second SHG of the game.  Zarley Zalapski had a goal and 3 assists and was a +3 on the night, Geoff Sanderson had 4 assists, and Andrew Cassels had a goal and 2 assists in Hartford's first victory of the season.

Recap:
It was a clash of two teams looking to make an early statement at the Pacific Coliseum in Vancouver, B.C..  Winnipeg poured on the offensive pressure early, but Vancouver goalie, Kirk McLean held his ground, making some big saves to keep it knotted at 0.  at the 18:12 mark of the 1st period, Darrin Shannon scored for Winnipeg, his first goal of an eventual hat trick.  Shannon scored again in the first 30 seconds of the 2nd period, followed by Keith Tkachuk scoring 10:12 in the period to take a stranglehold on the game 3-0.  Jyrke Lumme (2) and Geoff Courtnall each scored for the Canucks to cut the Jet lead to 1, with 19:53 remaining in the 3rd, but Winnipeg would turn up the Jets, getting a powerplay goal from Phil Housley, one by Evgeny Davydov (3), and Darrin Shannon would complete his hat trick on the powerplay with 3:55 remaining to take a commanding 6-2 lead.  10 different Jets were on the scoresheet, but NHL leading goal-getter Teemu Selanne was held with only 1 assist.
Winnipeg 3-1-0 (6) 1st Smythe, Vancouver 2-1-0 (4) t-2nd Smythe
