Recap:
The Buffalo Sabres took an aggressive approach to the Pittsburgh forwards in an attempt to stifle their explosive offensive attack.  For over two periods it worked flawlessly, and the Sabres were able to hang on for a 5-4 victory.  In the first period, rugged winger Brad May shadowed Jaromir Jagr, and with 5:54 remaining in the 1st period, he jumped on an opportunity to take a run at #68.  The Penguins took exception, and a scrum ensued, resulting in Jagr taking 5 minutes in penalties, and May was assessed 17 PIM (he ended up with 21 total PIM).  The tone was set and Pittsburgh could not get going until it was too late.  Dave Andreychuk had a goal and 2 assists, Dale Hawerchuk and Wane Pressley each had a goal and an assist.  In the loss, Mario Lemieux and Larry Murphy each had a goal and an assist.  The Penguins made the most of their powerplay, converting on 2 of 2.  Despite ramping up the physical play, the Sabres remained disciplined.  Pittsburgh goalie Ken Wregget only was able to make 20 saves on 25 shots.

Recap:
It was the game that an entire province and the hockey world has been waiting for.  Eric Lindros' first game at Quebec to take on the Nordiques.  Lindros scorned Quebec and demanded a trade before donning the sweater.  The Quebecois viewed it as not only a rejection of the hockey franchise, but a rejection of their beloved culture.
Mais bien sûr. It's perfectly normal for adults to wear diapers over their pants to a hockey game. Some even came shirtless, wearing bonnets and waving rattles. The presumed intent of this infantile display was to show that Lindros was a baby. A Quebec radio station even distributed pacifiers outside the Colisée to fans, who obligingly hurled them onto the ice. Play was stopped countless times to shovel away the pacifiers and other debris, including bullets and batteries. "If I ever have kids, they'll have pacifiers to suck on for life," Lindros said after the game. NHL president Gil Stein, who was in attendance, was hit by a pacifier, and he was seated behind the Quebec bench. "It wasn't even my size," Stein complained.
As a result of these goings-on, one fan was injured when she was struck in the face by a golf ball, and nobody was ejected from the building. The public-address announcer even neglected to tell the crowd to cease and desist
Special thanks:  http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/vault/article/magazine/MAG1004381/1/index.htm  Lindros came out despite the welcome and was challenged to a fight with Mats Sundin just 5 minutes into the game.  The Flyers built a 2-0 lead in the first period.  With 4 minutes left in the 2nd, ex Flyer, Quebec goaltender Ron Hextall took exception to a scramble in the crease and hacked Lindros, which was penalized.  Lindros was set up by Brian Benning on the ensuing powerplay to take a 3-0 lead.
Steve Duchesne and Adam Foote rallied in the 3rd for Quebec, who came just short of tying the game late in the 3rd.

Recap:
The Tampa bay Lightning earned their first victory in franchise history Tuesday night.  Behind a strong defensive effort, Pat Jablonski was able to record the first shutout and win for the lightning, only needing to make 20 saves.  The powerplay for the Lightning was very good, led by John Tucker and Chris Kontos who both recorded 2 assists with the man-advantage.  The Lightning have pulled even with St. Louis for 5th place in the Norris Division.  The game was fairly tame, however Garth Butcher and Doug Crossman got into fisticuffs in the last minute, as Butcher wanted to send a message for their next meeting.

Recap:
A sellout crowd of 8,783 People were on hand for the NHL's first neutral site game of the season in SaskPlace in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, the home of the Saskatoon Blades.  The conversion to ice was not easy as there was a professional wresting event last night.  On October 12, 1992, Canadian wrestling legend Bret Hart defeated Ric Flair to capture his first WWF Championship. Bret's father, legendary Hart family patriarch Stu, was born and raised in Saskatoon.
The Minnesota North Stars were considered the "home" team, however the vast majority of the crowd was pulling for the Canadian squad.
The crowd was treated to a wild back and forth game.  There were 6 lead changes throughout and each team had the upper hand at various points in the matchup.  The Minnesota powerplay was lethal, converting on 3 of 6 chances, including converting on a Craig Berube 5 minute major in the 3rd period, when Ulf Dahlen scored his 2nd of the game (4) to tie the game at 4.  Russ Courtnall also had 2 goals for the North Stars (5) to rise to 2nd in goals and points in the NHL.  Mark Tinordi had 3 helpers and logged over 30 minutes of ice time.  Robert reichel had 2 goals for Calgary (3)and also added 2 assists, while Gary Roberts and Theo Fleury got on the board with their 1st of the season.  Todd Elik scored for Minnesota to take a 6-5 lead with 5:48 remaining, but Carey Wilson tied it for Calgary only 1:09 later, which was the final goal of the game.

Recap:
The San Jose Sharks caught the Kings reeling from their recent loss against the Winnipeg Jets.  Los Angeles was expecting a boost from the return of Tomas Sandstrom to the lineup, but he was held off the scoresheet, had no shots and was a -2 on the night.  The Sharks hit the ice running, getting a goal from Dale Craigwell 7:53 in the first period to go ahead 1-0.  Mike Donnelly evened it up for the Kings 8 minutes later.  San Jose would then score the next 3 goals:  Pat Falloon in the last two minutes of the second, Ozilinsh (3) only 26 seconds into the second, and Falloon again at the 5:38 mark with his 2nd and (4)th of the season to propel San Jose to a surprising 4-1 lead at the Great Western Forum.
Discipline would do the Sharks in though, as they continued to provide Los Angeles with powerplay opportunities.  Paul Coffey, and Corey Millen (2) would both score on the powerplay to close the 2nd and open the 3rd to cut the lead to 1.  Jari Kurri would score (3) a minute and a half after Millen to tie the game suddenly 4-4, with 13:18 still to play in the 3rd period.  With 5:55 left, Marty McSorley took a heavy shot from the top of the circle that found its way past Jeff Hackett to take the lead for good 5-4 for the Kings.  In fitting fashion, Mike Sullivan of San Jose took a holding penalty with 39 seconds left to quell any hopes of a comeback.
Los Angeles 3-1-0 (6) t-1st Smythe, San Jose 0-3-0 (0) t-5th Smythe

First Star of the night:
Eric Lindros scored a powerplay Game-Winning goal and had a fight, to lead the Flyers to a 3-2 lead in the most hostile of environments.
