1992-1993 NHL Replay Ground Rules

Ground Rules

This will be an as-played replay, my first experience on the Strat O Matic Computer game.

I have reverted the rosters back to October 8th, 1992.  Each move will be made on the corresponding date and the thread updated.

The intent is to use the actual game lineups and starting goalies.  Lines will be set to the best of my ability and exact in-game usage cannot be guaranteed, but can tweak as the season goes and options are learned/discovered.  Results will be monitored (loosely) for large variants.

Injuries OFF for the regular season.

Enforcer Rule OFF – Due to the spirit of an offensively charged season and the Game Misconduct for instigating.

Playoffs will become a “what if” format.  Teams will have all players they ended the regular season with available.  Any known season ending injury from the regular season will be observed.  For example, Pierre Turgeon will likely not be jumped by Dale Hunter, and Alexander Mogilny will likely not break his leg in the Adams Division Final vs. Montreal.  Injuries, however, will be switched to ON for the playoffs.

Home Ice advantage will be turned ON in the spirit of the Ottawa Senators’ 1-41-0 away record.  It will be switched to OFF for neutral site games.

The All-Star game will be held.  Preference will be given to the players who played in the “real-life” version, but rosters may change.

Post season awards that existed in 1992-1993 will be given out with a few additions:

  • Maurice “Rocket” Richard Trophy for top goal scorer (implemented 1998-1999 ironically first won by Teemu Selanne).
  • Glen Head Cup awarded to the team who comes closest to its point total (tie breakers: win differential, goals for/goals against differential, goals for differential, home w/l differential, away w/l differential, co-winners.
  • Hal Richman Award to the player in the top 25 in scoring who is closest to his real-life 1992-1993 point total (tie-breakers:  points, assists, +/-, co-winners).
  • Sam Pollack Award:  Awarded to the team with the biggest jump in the standings vs real-life (tie breakers same as Glen Head Cup)
  • Tom McVie Trophy:  Awarded to the team with the biggest drop jump in the standings vs real-life (tie breakers same as Glen Head Cup)

Updates will be posted as I see fit and cover what I deem to be noteworthy.  I am willing to look up/answer any inquiries.  I will also update league happenings, trades, etc as they happen as per the replay calendar.

Inputting the game day lineups and adjusting lines will be a bit time consuming, so this replay will likely run long.
