Recap:
The day after being traded from the Boston Bruins, Bob Sweeney wanted to make an impression with his new team and did just that.  He scored a powerplay goal in the 2nd period and later would score the tying goal with just over 10 minutes remaining in regulation.  Sweeney would talley 6 shots and was instrumental on the penalty kill.  He would later earn first star honors.
Overall, the game was back and forth with 5 lead changes.  Neither Darren Puppa or Frank Pietrangelo were impressive as they saved 7 of 15 GR chances combined.  Pat Lafontaine (2) and Dave Andreychuk (2) also scored for the Sabres.  For Hartford, Andrew Cassels had a goal and 2 assists and Geoff Sanderson scored what was the go ahead goal (2) on the powerplay just 15 seconds into the second period.
In the closing seconds of overtime, it appeared a tie was almost locked in.  The Sabres went on one last rush and Pat LaFontaine elected to roll the dice and pass instead of take a shot.  LaFontaine hit Mogilny who broke free from the Hartford defense, and Mogilny blasted the puck past Pietrangelo for the last-second victory.

Recap:
In a battle of two teams who have looked impressive the first week, the scoring came early and often.  Dave Reid of the Bruins and Pierre Turgeon exchanged their second goals of the season in the first 6 minutes, and Benoit Hogue scored his 3rd to put the Islanders up 2-1.  Late in the period, Adam Oates and Dave Poulin (3) scored 1:33 apart to push Boston ahead 3-2.  Boston had a shot margin after 1 period of 19-7 and Al Arbour was visibly frustrated with his team.  The Islanders came out and played a near perfect road period in the second, but Steve Heinze scored with 6 seconds left in the 2nd to put Boston up 4-2.  He would also add his 2nd 2:38 into the 3rd for the 5-2 lead.
The Islanders would chip away in the 3rd with goals from Marty McInnis (2), and another from Pierre Turgeon (3).  The comeback would fall short, however, as Vladimir Ruzicka scored an empty net goal (2) to seal the 6-4 victory.  Boston finished with a 45-23 shot advantage.

Recap:  John Vanbiesbrouck was perfect in his first start of the season, as he saved each of New Jersey's 29 shots to lead the New York Rangers to a 3-0 victory at Brendan Byrne Arena.  The Rangers were putting on a lot of pressure in the 1st period and Doug Weight finally broke the scoreless tie 12:29 in.  The game was very tight checking and would remain 1-0 until Darren Turcotte scored his 3rd goal of the season on a rebound in the crease 7:20 into the 3rd period.  Later in the 3rd period, Mike Gartner cashed in a powerplay goal on a tic tac toe passing play from Beukeboom and Turcotte to ice the game at 3-0.

Recap:
The Ottawa Senators playing in their first road game refused to go down without a fight.  Steve Weeks would be solid in his first start.  Quebec was relentless in the first period, tallying 17 shots.  Just over 15 minutes in, Andrei Kovalenko scored his 2nd of the season on the powerplay, putting the Nordiques ahead.  Mark Lamb answered with an unassisted goal 8:24 into the second for Ottawa to tie the game at 1.  Alexei Gusarov and Owen Nolan then each scored their 1st goals of the season to propel Quebec to a 3-1 lead within minutes of Ottawa tying the game.  At the 16:53 mark of the 3rd period, Sylvain Turgeon scored to close the margin to 3-2 and there were visions of another Ottawa comeback.  Ottawa would have a late powerplay, but Turgeon would be denied by Ron Hextall on 2 point blank chances in the last minute to seal the victory.

It took him just longer than 3 games, but Eric Lindros finally got on the board with his first NHL Goal, first point, first GWG, and first SHG 2:32 in overtime to lift the Flyers to a 2-1 victory in Overtime against the winless Washington Capitals.  It was a tight checking game, but Washington carried the play in the 2nd period.  Bob Carpenter scored a goal with just under 6 minutes remaining in the 2nd to give Washington a 1-0 lead.  Don Beaupre was fantastic in net for Washington, but mark Recchi was finally able to solve him with just 5 minutes and change left in regulation.  Both teams went 0 for 6 on the powerplay, but special teams would be the difference as the Flyers had to kill a Shawn Cronin penalty at the end of regulation and the beginning of overtime, and Eric Lindros' game winner came with teammate Dimitri Yuskevich in the box in overtime.

Recap:
It was a highly anticipated match up at the Montreal Forum, and the first game of the Hockey Night in Canada double header.  The defending Stanley Cup Champion Pittsburgh Penguins vs. 1992-1993 Stanley Cup hopeful, Montreal Canadiens.  Some fireworks were expected on the scoreboard.  Rick Tochett did not disappoint, putting Pittsburgh up 1-0 just 22 seconds into the game.  However, goaltenders Tom Barrasso and Patrick Roy were stellar in net.  Vince Damphousse tied the game on the powerplay in the closing minutes of the 1st, then the tie was not broken until the 3rd period, when Kirk Muller took the lead for good for Montreal, who won the statement game.

Recap:
The Edmonton Oilers continue to stagger out of the gate, dropping their 3rd straight game and failing to give Vancouver any resistance, losing 6-2.  The game was over in the 1st period for all intents and purposes.  Linden, Nedved, and Ronning all scored for Vancouver, jumping out to a 3-0 lead with Kirk McLean in net, who was yet to allow a goal in 1992-1993.  Tom Fergus and Petr Klima would exchange goals in the 2nd to make the score 4-1 Canucks, but Trevor Linden and Petr Nedved would provide the final blows with their 3rd of the season each.  Linden also assisted on Ronning's marker making this a 3 point night.

Recap:
Detroit would make this game a laugher at the Cow Palace.  They would score 10 goals on only 41 shots to cruise to a 10-4 landslide, which was not even as close as the already lopsided score indicates.  Detroit went 4 for 6 on the powerplay, had 11 different point-getters, and say Steve Yzerman score a hat trick to push his total to (5).  Paul Ysebaert had 2 goals of his own for Detroit (3).  Johan Garpenlow had 2 goals in the losing effort, and Pat Falloon and Sandis Ozilinsh each potted their 2nd of the season.  Chaisson, Ysebaert, Yzerman, Probert, Ciccarelli, Lidstrom, Chiasson, Federov, and Howe all had multi-point games for the Red Wings.  Both goaltenders were awful only saving 2 of 13 goalie ratings and 48 of 62 shots total.  Suprisingly, San Jose chose to leave Hayward in for the slaughter.

Recap:
Mike Krushelnyski scored twice in 33 seconds early in the second period in the second half of the Hockey Night In Canada Double Header.  Felix Potvin was close to carring a Maple Leaf shutout streak to start the season to 6 periods, but Joe Nieuwendyk scored with 41 seconds remaining in the second period to cut the maple Leaf lead in half.  Calgary was all over the Leafs in the 3rd period, outshooting them 14-5.  The 3rd period got chippy as well.  Wendell Clark and Theo Fleury got into a heated fistfight, and less than a minute later, Mike Vernon and Joe Sacco got tangled up.  Sergei Makarov was finally able to put away the tying goal with 1:14 remaining in the 3rd.  Both teams exchanged chances in the 3rd period, but could not capitalize.  Calgary outshot the Leafs 38-23 overall.  Krushelnyski was given the 1st star, and Felix Potvin the 2nd.

Recap:
The talk of the league going into Saturday was the Los Angeles Kings.  However, they received some bad news before the game as league leager in goals Tomas Sandstrom was a late scratch due to injury.  Wayne Gretzky is also still injured.  Los Angeles also gave Kelly Hrudey rest and played backup Robb Stauber.
Winnipeg would take advantage early.  Evgeny Davidov, Teemu Selanne (4), and Ed Olczyk (2) all scored in the first 7 minutes of the 1st period on Winnipeg's 1st 3 shots.  Luc Robitaille potted his 3rd of the season and 10th point on the powerplay right after to make it 3-1.  That is the closest the Kings would get.  Despite only getting 24 shots, the Jets put 7 past Robb Stauber.  Teemu Selanne scored a hat trick (6) to take over the league lead in goals and take 1st star.  Alexei Zhamnov and Phil Housley had 3 assists each.  Davydov would add his second goal of the game in the 3rd period.  Luc Robitaille had 2 goals (4) to extend his league lead in point total to 11.  Los Angeles was still lethal on the powerplay going 2 of 5, and Winnipeg scored 7 goals despite not having one man advantage.
Winnipeg 2-1-0 (4) t-1st Smythe, Los Angeles 2-1-0 (4) t-1st Smythe

First Star of the Day:
Jets Rookie Teemu Selanne scored a hat trick, to lead the Winnipeg Jets past a very hot Los Angeles Kings team in a Smythe Division showdown.  Selanne has 6 goals which lead the NHL.
