Recap:
The Spectrum in  was abuzz in anticipation of Eric Lindros' first game in Philadelphia.  Although Lindros was disappointing for the 2nd straight game (-1 and 1 shoy on goal), the crowd did not leave disappointed as their Flyers pulled out a 5-4 victory.  Overall, the New Jersey Devils carried the play for most of the game, but the Flyers capitalized when it counted and scored 4 straight goals in the 2nd period and went a perfect 3 for 3 on the powerplay, while killing off 6 of 7 short handed situations.  Bobby Holik put the Devils up early with two straight first period goals.  Brennan, Dineen, Kasper, and Brind'Amour all scored for the Flyers in period 2.  Claude Lemieux would then score at the end of the 2nd period and early in the 3rd to tie the game up at 4.  However, with Ken Daneyko in the penalty box, Brent Fedyk scored on the feed from Mark Recchi with just under 5 minutes remaining to take the lead 5-4.  As time expired, with Chris Terreri pulled for the extra attacker, Bobby Holik had a golden opportunity to tie the game and get the hat trick.  However, Dominic Roussel stonewalled Holik to seal the Flyer victory.  It was a rough night for Chris Terreri as he was only able to make 19 saves on 24 shots.

Recap:
The Rangers, in their 1992-1993 season opener, set out to spoil the Washington Capitals' home opener at the Capital Center.  In an open first period, Don Beaupre and Mike Richter held their own.  The lone blemish was a shorthanded effort by the Rangers when Darren Turcotte sprung Jan Erixon loose on a breakaway and he beat Beaupre stick-side.  The Rangers would start early in the second.  less than 3 minutes in, Darren Turcotte scored from the top of the circle, which was his 2nd point and 1st of 2 goals on the night.  11:04 into the 2nd period, on the powerplay, Al Iafrate found a shooting lane and unleashed a cannon, which found the top corner of the net.  That ended a scoreless drought to start the season for the Capitals at 91:04.  Mark Messier would add another ranger goal, his first of the season with just under 3 minutes remaining in the 2nd to put the Rangers up 3-1.  The back-breaker came off the stick of Darren Turcotte, short-handed  early in the 3rd period.  With 1:54 left, Mike Ridley lost control near the blueline and the puck bounced to Turcotte who threw it on net and beat Washington goalie Don Beaupre.  With 2 short-handed goals against, Terry Murray may wish he could decline penalties.  Kelly Miller scored halfway through the 3rd period for Washington, but it was too little, too late.  The Rangers did a great job of clogging the ice, and stifled any Washington opportunities.
New York Rangers 1-0-0 (2) t-3rd Patrick, Washington 0-2-0 (0) t-5th Patrick

First Star of the night:
New York Rangers' Darren Turcotte.  2 Goals (1 SH), 1 Assist, +3, 6 Shots on Goal, won 6 of 9 faceoffs to lead the Rangers to a 4-2 win over the Capitals to start the season.
